Introductions were made for the benefit of new hoard members.

Minutes for October 22, 2010 meeting approved.

Discussion of Facebook and the SSD Blog:
  • Each serves a different purpose
  • Bring selected archived blog entries to FB
  • Need to poll members opinions on FB
  • Use FB to promote events
  • Share administration of postings
  • Highlight support staff and successful SSD happenings
  • Use t solicit ideas for events
  • Announce scholarships opportunities
  • Need to increase FB fan base by ”passing on the word”

Jay Cooper's resignation leaves the position of Vice-Chair/Chair-elect open. Please be thinking about possible SSD members who may be able to fill this vacancy.

SSD conference program needs theme and session ideas

Need people to participate
  • Need SSD members to moderate sessions at OLA and provide introductions and housekeeping reminders to conference attendees
Signup sheet to be routed
  • SSD Business Meeting to be held at OLA on April 7th 5:30-6:30, Open House format
  • Oregon Association of School Libraries (OASL) and OLA discussing possible merger

Discussion on ALA’s Library Support Staff Certification (LSSC) and how to apply for Registration Assistance Awards. MaryKay Dahlgren represented the State Library and presented information on the scholarships.

4 awards each year for 2 years

Shared ownership of the process with OSL and SSD

SSD to promote LSSC

Possibly a “Meet the Candidates” at a future OLS Conference

OSL Promote via LTLO, LIBS-OR, Library Hotline, Press Release

SSD grant may fund ½ half of registration costs for members

OSL’s Library Development will “talk it up” at OLA in April

MaryKay Dahlgreen to complete re-write of registration

  • SSD to develop selection criteria for evaluation of applicants
  • SSD to handle selection process of candidates applying

Due date for criteria/section process and re-write of registration document
NEED HELP with dates. I have several noted May 6th and May 31st. Not sure where they fit/

Ideas for distribution of awards:
  • Meet basic criteria
  • Lottery drawing of awards
  • Application to be mailed to Newburg Public Library c/o Rea Andrew
