Leadership Institute of the Oregon Library Association (LIOLA) 

 

Why: Would you like to develop equitable leadership practices? Have you wished that you had a support system of other leaders in Oregon libraries who could help when new challenges arise? Want to learn strategies to be a thoughtful advocate? You’ll gain these skills and more through your participation in LIOLA.

When: The Leadership Institute of the Oregon Library Association (LIOLA) happens every other year.  The most recent LIOLA occurred Summer 2025; our next LIOLA will happen in 2027. 

Who: All Oregon Library Association (OLA) members who meet the eligibility criteria and who are interested in leadership (formal or informal) are encouraged to apply. LIOLA is relevant for people who lead from anywhere, whether or not they are in a management role. 

 Eligibility criteria: 
  • Current membership in OLA
  • Current employment in a library
  • Employment in a library setting for at least three years
  • One (1) professional letter of reference
  • Attend and participate fully in the entire institute, complete any pre-institute readings and/or homework, and contribute to post-institute assessment and meetings

Cost: TBD for 2027. Scholarships to attend LIOLA are also available; you can request a scholarship when you apply.
