OLA GREEN CONFERENCE


The 2011 OLA Conference will be a Green Conference. This flyer lists the things the conference committee and conference center are doing as well as things attendees can focus on.

Conference Center and Hotel
Both the Salem Conference Center and the Phoenix Grand Hotel incorporate green practices into their daily business:

Speakers an>

  • We encourage speakers to eliminate handouts and use as little paper as possible if they do use handouts.
  • We also require speakers to post their presentations on Northwest Central as an online alternative to paper handouts.

Vendors

  • Ask vendors to be sensitive to the impact of their exhibits and to minimize printed material.
  • Encourage freebies that are environmentally responsible. 

Conference program

  • Printed on post-consumer recycled paper with non-toxic ink

Food

  • Be responsible with uneaten food, so that it doesnt go to waste.
  • The Salem Conference Center uses local food.

Evaluation forms

  • Evaluations will be online only, beginning on the pre-conference day. 

What Attendees can do

CONFERENCE BAGS

  • We are not printing conference bags this year. Attendees are encouraged to bring bags from previous conferences to use or exchange.

Name-tag holders

  • Return name-tag holders for reuse or recycling; there will be a bin at the registration desk.

Recycling

  • Please recycle in the provided containers for:  plastic, glass, and paper.
  • Take only what you need of handouts and other products.
  • Use travel mugs rat her than paper cups whenever possible.

Transportation

  • Carpool whenever possible; let the conference chair know if you need help finding a carpool buddy.
  • Use park-and-ride lots or public transit:

  • The Salem Conference Center has a bicycle rack on the south side of the building.
  • Look into using Amtrak http://www.amtrak.com with a convenient station in downtown Salem.
