PLD Standards Overview

In the fall of 2012, the Public Library Division of the Oregon Library Association, in association with the Oregon State Library, convened a committee of library professionals from small, medium, and large public libraries across the state to review and rewrite the Standards for Oregon public libraries.

The Standards are a crucial tool in maintaining quality services and facilities, explaining library needs to voters and elected officials, and helping guide library directors and managers in development, strategic planning, and decision making.

The new Standards were adopted in 2013 and PLD pledged to review them in their entirety every year. In 2015, a section on ethics was added. In 2016, PLD will work with the State Library to find ways to align the Standards and the State Library statistics so that more libraries report on and share their level of achievement in the Standards.
