ACRL-Oregon Chapter Meeting
October 27, 2006
Menucha, OR

MINUTES

The following minutes of the ACRL-Oregon Board Meeting are provided for informational purposes only. This is not intended to be a formal report.

Division re-cap

  • Janeanne distributed a meeting agenda which highlighted division activities over the last year. She explained that ACRL-OR is a chapter of ACRL and the academic division of OLA, hence our involvement with both groups.

Upcoming activities

  • Upcoming activities were also listed on the meeting agenda.
  • ACRL-OR is sponsoring Kate Gronmeyer for the ALA Emerging Leaders Program
  • Kate Rubic  was appointed as the academic library rep to the OLA/WLA programming committee

Budget

  • Membership is down a bit (gone from ~119 to 107)
  • Memberclicks, contracted by OLA, has a small initial fee
    • Fee for use (credit card charge) is up for discussion still

OLA board items of interest

  • Oregon Reads 2009 (the sesquicentennial): one book, one state
    • Oregon 150 is a statewide group selecting an adult book and a picture book by an Oregon author
  • There’s talk that in 2010, OLA and OASL (Oregon Association of School Libraries) will merge. This has been discussed in the past, but there have been some big issues such as the timing of the annual conference. But the OLA Board approved having a meeting to discuss this. It’s a neat opportunity because work between academic and high school libraries has led to good grants, etc. and allows us to focus on information literacy.
  • There’s an info lit conference (Information Literacy: Community College Relations with Universities) at OSU on November 17th
    • Librarians, writing teachers and technology folks from community colleges are invited
  • www.oslis.org provides resources to high school librarians and is the portal for Oregon databases like EBSCO

Legislative day

  • ACRL National holds Leg Day as a way to create a better network and to express academic library concerns
  • We need someone to be our rep. This would be a Deidre Conklin-type role
  • Interested folks should contact Janeanne
