Lexile Levels

The Lexile Framework is based on the length of words, sentence length and the average frequency of words found in the American Heritage Intermediate Corpus (You know, a dictionary!). Books with a great deal of content vocabulary tend to score higher because these words are not as frequently used as the everyday vocabulary of stories.

Guided reading levels, as provided by Reading Expeditions, applied the following text difficulty criteria:  book and print features, vocabulary, sentence complexity, content, text structure and themes/ideas.
